Robert Stuart's Eastbound Route

Robert Stuart returned overland from from Astoria to New York, via St. Louis with dispatches intended for John Jacob Astor.  In addition to his party, he was accompanied by Crooks and McClellen and later joined by Miller who had given up their partnership in the company and were determined to return to St. Louis.
